WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF THE MARCHES COMMUNITY CHOIR

The Choir aims to bring choral music to all in the Bishop’s Castle (Shropshire) area of the of the Marches, including those who live in the adjacent towns in Wales.

BCClefWe have just completed the 13th Year since our launch as part of the Millennium celebrations. We had a very successful anniversary year in 2010 and several successful concerts since. We pride ourselves in reaching a high musical standard under the direction of professional musicians. Our concerts feature professional vocal soloists and instrumentalists and our Conductor expects to train the members in his interpretation of the chosen works each season.

The Choir has around 80 enthusiastic members drawn from a wide section of the community around Bishop’s Castle. It is open to all to join, there are no formal auditions and we encourage participation by all those over 16 (younger if accompanied by a parent), whether able to read music or not. Tenors and basses are especially welcome, but there will always be a need for sopranos and altos as well. There is no upper age limit and we have many active retired members.

In normal years there are two concerts, in the Spring and at Christmas. Rehearsals are held in Bishop’s Castle Community College at 7:30pm on Mondays. Concerts are normally on Saturday evenings in St John’s Church, Bishop’s Castle. The Choir is a Registered Charity (number 1099360) and is funded by member subscriptions, member fund raising, grants from Shropshire Council, Making Music and others plus other sponsorship.

This season’s concerts are now over, and the Choir is about to hold its annual general meeting at which guidelines for the choice of music for 2012-13 will be decided.

Once that is done, we will update this page with our choices for next season, information on the rehearsals start date and the dates for the two main concerts of the year.

Thank you for visiting the website of the Marches Community Choir.

Rehearsals for the 2012-13 Season

However, it seems likely that the first rehearsal will be on Monday 3rd September in the Main Hall of the Bishop’s Castle Community College at 7:30pm. Membership is open to all without a formal audition, and we hope to repeat our successful tuition sessions for those whose musical knowledge needs some updating.

As soon as we know next season’s programme we will update this website.
